ALS Society of Alberta – As most of us do, we support charities that we have a connection with. Sadly, that connection for us is that we (Jo-Ann and Andrea) lost our mother to this horrific disease in 2010. The following year, Jo-Ann, wishing to feel that she was contributing, joined the committee for Betty’s Run for ALS. She was looking to help others, but found that they helped her. This fabulous group quickly became an important support system. They work they do is amazing; they help support those living with and affected by this horrible disease with an equipment loan program, support groups and so much more. Please take a moment to learn more about this disease and what the ALS Society of Albert does to provide invaluable support.
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House – Another charity, sadly with a personal connection. Friends of Jo-Ann’s stayed at RMHNA for almost a year when their child was ill. They speak very highly of RMH and the support they received while there. During this beautiful young girl’s time at RMHNA, she collected pop can tabs to raise money for RMHNA. Jo-Ann still collects these tabs and sends them to Edmonton. Have some pop tabs to add? Bring them into the clinic and we will add them to ours.
Did you know that 70% of Canadian families live outside a city with a children’s hospital? So when a child gets sick, they often have to travel hours to get treatment. Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada give families a place to stay close to the hospital where their child is being treated.
Soap for Hope YYC
Soap for Hope YYC – Soap for Hope – YYC collects new travel sized soap and shampoo products generously donated by WestJet flight crews. These are put into Hygiene Kits and distributed to local shelters in the Airdrie/Calgary, Alberta area. As we grow we will duplicate the Soap For Hope – Victoria program, to begin our hotel recycling program. No one should have to Hope for Soap!
Airdrie Food Bank
Airdrie Food Bank – The Airdrie Food Bank is building a stronger community in which Neighbours help Neighbours to alleviate hunger in our community. The Airdrie Food Bank (the “AFB”) is available for everyone in need. The number of people being supported by the Airdrie Food Bank has doubled in the last 2 years. In 2016 they fed 32 108 people and had over 600 new families in their hamper program. Only 8% of their funding comes from government programs.
Airdrie Meals on Wheels
Airdrie Meals on Wheels – Have you ever been ill or injured and wished someone would bring you a hot bowl of soup, or maybe a sandwich? Do you have an elderly or handicapped loved one, who is finding it difficult, or even impossible, to shop for and prepare meals for themselves? Imagine being hungry, with no one to help. Airdrie Meals on Wheels volunteers will deliver complete meals right to your loved one’s kitchen.
Airdrie & District Hospice Society
Airdrie & District Hospice Society – The need for Palliative Care in Airdrie & District developed through the collective desire of community citizens to improve support for families and individuals at the end of life. A small group of dedicated individuals came together to support this concept and formed the Airdrie & District Hospice Society in February of 2011. The Society strongly believes their neighbours, friends and loved ones wish to be supported in the community while experiencing palliative illnesses.
Quinn’s Legacy Run
Quinn’s Legacy Run – Quinn’s Legacy was created because many families that have suffered a loss from SIDS need support and information about the process that happens after this loss.
In Canada, maternity and parental government financial support is revoked within a week of the loss of a child. Quinn’s Legacy aims to help these families – all funds raised go to support these families and are donated to SIDS Calgary.
